Scotland v Serbia: Levein’s English Premier League XI

Former Rangers midfielder has blossomed south of the border, first with Blackpool, where he earned a £7m move to Liverpool. Moved to Stoke City for £5m on deadline day last Friday and came off the bench the following day in  2-2 draw at Wigan.

Gary Caldwell (Wigan Athletic)

Ex-Hibs and Celtic defender has re-invented himself as the libero in Wigan’s three-at-the-back system. Was voted the club’s Player of the Year by their fans last season.

Graeme Dorrans (West Brom)

Former Livingston midfielder is highly-valued at Albion, who knocked back an enquiry by Swansea during the summer. Missed the opening game of the new season as his daughter was suffering from meningitis. Now back in the starting XI.

Danny Fox (Southampton)

Earned his recall to the Scotland squad for last month’s friendly against Australia after a three-year absence by virtue of his part in Saints’ surge back to the top flight.

Alan Hutton (Aston Villa)

Right-back has not figured for Villa since new manager Paul Lambert declared he was surplus to requirements and was looking for a new club. Moved from Rangers to Tottenham for £9m in 2008.

Jamie Mackie (QPR)

Premier League rivals West Ham and Southampton were keen to sign the 25-year-year-old in the close season. But he signed a new deal at QPR which keeps him at Loftus Road until summer 2015. Has made two out of three league starts so far.

Shaun Maloney (Wigan)

In his second crack at Premier League football, the former Celtic winger has at last begun to make his mark. Never hit the heights with Aston Villa in his first spell in England but burst on to the scene at Wigan at the end of last season. Scored a penalty against Stoke on Saturday.

Russell Martin (Norwich)

Nicknamed the ‘Norfolk Cafu’ by Norwich fans following a spectacular goal, he was a defensive stalwart, as the Carrow Road club consolidated their place in the Premier League last season.

James Morrison (West Brom)

Has been a prominent figure in the Baggies’ unbeaten start to the season. Lively in midfield and a threat when within shooting range, he scored the last-gasp equaliser which earned a point at Spurs.

Steven Naismith (Everton)

Missed most of last season while at Rangers because of a cruciate ligament injury but was snapped up in the summer by Everton. Already linking up well with ex-Ibrox team-mate Nikica Jelavic.

Robert Snodgrass (Norwich)

After four years at Leeds United, the midfielder joined Norwich this summer. Best player on the pitch last Saturday, scoring his side’s equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham.
