Scotland v Canada: A brief history

1983 tour of Canada: Jock Stein led a tour of Canada in June 1983 following an average showing in the British Home Championship when Scotland finished second with one victory. The Scots played three games in eight days in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto, winning 2-0, 3-0 and 2-0, with goals from Gordon Strachan and Mark McGhee in the first win, Charlie Nicholas, Richard Gough and Graeme Souness in the 3-0 victory, and a brace in the final fixture from Andy Gray.

1992 Toronto:
The second of three warm-up games in the lead-up to Euro 1992 in Sweden, with Andy Roxburgh’s side beating the hosts 3-1 in Toronto. Gary McAllister scored the opener, before John Catliff equalised. Ally McCoist scored Scotland’s second before a penalty from McAllister secured the win. It was the Scots’ last victory until the final group game 3-0 win against CIS, following 1-0 and 2-0 defeats to Holland and Germany respectively.

2002 at Easter Road:
Berti Vogts was in charge of Scotland for the first visit of Canada to Scottish soil. The much-changed side from the 2-0 win against Iceland in a Euro 2004 qualifier fell behind within ten minutes to a spot-kick by Dwayne de Rosario. Scotland weren’t behind for long, with a goal from Dunfermline striker Stevie Crawford two minutes later. Steven Thompson put Vogts’ side ahead on the 50th minute, before Crawford scored his second and Scotland’s third, above, to wrap up the victory.
