Scotland u-19s 1 - 3 Georgia u-19s: Scots out of Euros

GEORGIA inflicted a humiliating defeat on Scotland’s under-19s in the Euro Elite round, despite being reduced to nine men.Ricky Sbragia’s Scots are now out of the tournament in Belgium after a woeful display.

Spanish ref Carlos Grande sent off two Georgians and awarded the Scots a soft penalty when they were only a goal down. Not only did Carlisle United’s Mark Beck miss it, but he shouldn’t have taken it, according to Sbragia. He said: “He doesn’t take the penalties. John Herron takes them, but he wanted to take it. He’s not allowed to take it, that’s not his job.

“So John’s obviously asked him, but he’s taken it off him. Listen, John might have missed it, but at least we know where we are. We were really poor. We never got going at all.”

Beck claimed he wasn’t aware Herron was supposed to take the penalties. He insisted: “I didn’t know that John was on them. I fancied myself to score. I’ve scored them before for Carlisle. I’m absolutely gutted.”

Georgia were a goal up through Nika Kacharava when Davit Mtivlishvili was shown a second yellow card for two identical fouls on Ryan Fraser, who was Scotland’s best player.

Georgia captain Bachana Arabuli was also shown a second yellow card for diving on the hour mark, yet it was Georgia who twice breached the Scots’ fragile defence on the counter-attack with goals from Budu Zivziladze and Avlo Endeladze, before Fraser’s late reply.
