Scotland Euro 2024 seeding confirmed - which pot is Scotland, possible group opponents, when is the draw?
Steve Clarke’s side finished second in Group A after collecting 17 points, four less than first-placed Spain and six more than third-placed Norway, from eight matches having secured their place in next summer’s finals in Germany with two games to spare.
Now attention turns towards the Euro 2024 draw, which takes place in Hamburg, Germany on Saturday, December 2 at 5pm, with 21 of the 24 nations taking part now known following the conclusion of the qualifying phase, with the final three spots to be claimed by the play-off winners in March.
Seedings for the Euro 2024 group stage have been determined by performance during qualifying. There will be six groups of four at the tournament with the winners and runner-ups progressing to the round of 16 along with the four best third-placed finishers.
Scotland will be placed in Pot 3 which some may view as a preferable outcome to Pot 2 as it ensures they will avoid facing some big nations who have also been confirmed as third seeds such as Netherlands, Czech Republic and Croatia.
Scotland know they could face hosts Germany, Portugal, France, Spain, Belgium or England from Pot 1 in their Euro 2024 section. Hungary, Denmark, Albania, Austria, Turkey and Romania make up the six sides Scotland could face from Pot 2.
Confirmed alongside Scotland in Pot 3 are Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia and Czech Republic and Croatia, ensuring Scotland will not face any of those nations in the group stages in Germany.
Pot 4 will include the three play-off winners in March, but it also contains a sting in the tail in the shape of defending champions Italy after they scraped over the finish line in qualifying with a goalless draw against Ukraine on Monday.
Looking at the possibilities, France, Denmark, Scotland and Italy could be viewed as a potential group of death, with a section of Germany, Albania, Scotland and the play-off winner from the lower ranked League C path – either Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan or Luxembourg – considered more favourable, based on FIFA rankings.
