Safe-standing areas are too pricey for Inverness

Safe-standing areas are unlikely to be introduced at Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the near future, according to the Highland club.

The Scottish Premier League revealed earlier this week that they will consider requests to pilot safe-standing areas after announcing a relaxation of their rules on standing following Monday’s general meeting of all 12 clubs. However, Caley Thistle admit practical considerations and the cost involved in making changes to their Tulloch Caledonian Stadium mean they are unlikely to pilot the scheme any time soon.

Executive chairman Kenny Cameron said: “I voted in favour of the principle of safe-standing pilot schemes so that any SPL club who wishes can bring one forward. Safe-standing seats cost in the region of £84 each to buy, as opposed to £30 for a normal seat.

“Preliminary research shows that the cost of this could be prohibitive as things stand at the moment but we are keeping an open mind on this initiative and will be discussing the options in the very near future.”
