Ryan Gauld scores first goals for Sporting Lisbon

RYAN Gauld scored his first goals for Sporting Lisbon but it wasn’t enough as Marco Silva’s men went down 3-2 to Belenenses in the League Cup.

Former Dundee United star Gauld grabbed a brace inside the opening 20 minutes of the cup tie, but Belenenses hit back in the first half through Abel Camara.

Dalcio levelled matters on 54 minutes before Camara converted a 61st minute penalty to give Belenenses a surprise victory against the Leões.

Gauld said after the match: “I’m really enjoying the experience, football and the country. I am very happy to be at Sporting.”

Initially playing for Sporting’s ‘B’ team, Gauld netted twice in 18 appearances for João de Deus’s side.
