McCoist wants Cuellar to return to Ibrox

Ally McCoist is reportedly constructing a bid to bring Carlos Cuellar back to Rangers. The Aston Villa defender was outstanding in his time at Ibrox and the Rangers manager is keen to start talks with the Spaniard over a potential move back to the SPL. The injury-hit star has struggled to hold down a starting role at the Premier League club, but Rangers could face competition from La Liga outfits Espanyol and Villareal. (Daily Record)

• Meanwhile, Madjid Bougherra has admitted his reason for wanting to quit Rangers is to return to the Barclays Premier League. However, the Algerian international defender - who has a year left on his contract - insists he will only walk away from the Scottish champions with the blessing of McCoist. (The Scotsman)

• Bougherra's team-mate Kirk Broadfoot has urged him to decide on his future. The full-back said: "I hope he gets things sorted out soon and he makes the right decision for everyone involved." (The Sun)

• Rangers have rejected a 450,000 bid from Bursaspor for defender Steven Whittaker. The Turkish outfit, who already have Kenny Miller on their books, had their offer immediately rejected. (The Sun)

• Rangers will face competition from Italy and Belgium in their bid to sign Israeli striker Tomer Hemed. The Maccabi Haifa striker is available on a Bosman free transfer this summer, but is being watched by clubs including Cagliari, Bologna and Anderlecht. (Daily Mail)

• McCoist is also still interested in American midfielder Alejandro Bedoya, according to his Swedish club Orebro. (Daily Express)

• Scotland defender Danny Wilson could return to Rangers from Liverpool if a deal to hang on to Kyle Bartley falls through. (The Herald)

Cardiff target St Johnstone boss

Derek McInnes is on the final shortlist to become the new manager of Cardiff City. The St Johnstone boss is in the frame to land the top job at the Championship club after they sacked Dave Jones last week after missing out on promotion to the Premier League. (Daily Express)

Skacel 'wants pay rise'

Rudi Skacel's agent has called on Hearts to reflect the midfielder's contribution to the club in a new contract as talks continue over his future. The Czech Republic international has played a pivotal role since his Tynecastle return, and his agent Jochen Kientz said: "It's a good option for Hearts and not for the player. It's better to have a player who is satisfied." (Daily Express)

Craig Whyte group confirms Rangers funding plans

New Rangers owner Craig Whyte has confirmed formally his funding plans for the club in a letter to shareholders. The Motherwell-born businessman, who paid 1 last month for Sir David Murray's majority shareholding in Rangers, has put a figure on the amount he will provide for the playing squad, for improvements to Ibrox Stadium and as working capital - and has reiterated his pledge to raise 20 million for players over the next four years. • Dunfermline are set to re-sign goalkeeper Paul Gallacher from St Mirren within the next 48 hours. (The Sun)

• St Mirren yesterday signed Paul McGowan from Celtic and former Hamilton striker Nigel Hasselbaink. (Daily Record)

• Colin Cameron has been confirmed as the new manager of Cowdenbeath. The former Scotland midfielder was assistant to Jimmy Nicholl before he moved to become No.2 at Kilmarnock.

• Midfielder David Rowson has agreed a new two-year deal at Partick Thistle.

• Dundee are set to complete the signing of striker Jake Hyde this week. The 20-year-old has agreed to return to Dens Park after being released by Dunfermline last month.

• Brechin City have pulled off another significant signing coup after snapping up former Raith Rovers and East Fife striker Paul McManus. The 28-year-old has returned to Scotland following a spell in Malta with Hibernians.
