Gers take Onyewu on trial

RANGERS have taken former USA international Oguchi Onyewu on trial as Mark Warburton seeks reinforcements.

The 34-year-old defender - who once broke Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s rib in a training ground alteracation - has been without a club since leaving Charlton Athletic last year but came to Rangers’ attention through Niko Kranjcar’s agent.

Warburton said: “He will need the first couple of days to acclimatise in terms of the pace of the session and getting to know the boys. At the moment it’s just about seeing his shape, there’s no more to it than that.” (The Scotsman)

Celts could land Duffy for £2m

CELTIC could land Shane Duffy for a modest £2 million, after Brendan Rodgers made enquiries about the Blackburn defender.

Rodgers is reportedly keen on bolstering his defensive options, with the futures of Charlie Mulgrew and Efe Ambrose still up in the air, and could move to bring in the former Everton youngster.

Duffy is into his final year at Ewood Park and could be tempted by a move north of the Border. (Various)

Lennon hopeful over double deal

NEIL Lennon has hinted that both Grant Holt and Scott McDonald could be Hibs players in the next few days.

Lennon confirmed that the club had held talks with both strikers and that he felt the current strikers - namely Jamie Insall, Jason Cummings and James Keatings - would benefit from a bit of experience.

And now the ex-Norwich hitman and former Motherwell and Celtic forward could become Lennon’s first signings at Easter Road. (The Scotsman)

Jags eye Donnelly move

PARTICK Thistle are weighing up a move for 20-year-old Fulham defender Liam Donnelly, as the Firhill club look to plug the gap left by Mustapha Dumbuya’s six-month injury lay-off

Northern Irish defender Donnelly, who can operate at right back and in central defence, is believed to be a target for Alan Archibald and had a loan spell at Crawley last season. (Scottish Sun)

Scepovic leaves Celtic for Getafe

CELTIC striker Stefan Scepovic has joined Spanish outfit Getafe on a permanent deal after spending last season on loan at the Madrid-based club.

The Serbian striker netted six goals in 25 appearances for Celtic, and is believed to have made the switch to Spain for around £1 million.

He arrived at Celtic after 23 goals in 41 matches for Sporting Gijon, but found first team opportunities hard to come by at Parkhead. (Various)

Dembele becomes Rodgers’ first Celtic signing

MOUSSA Dembele has been confirmed as Brendan Rodgers’ first signing as Celtic manager.

The highly-rated French forward has signed a four-year contract at Celtic Park after leaving Fulham. He had been linked with Tottenham in January but stayed at Craven Cottage.

The striker, who cost the Hoops around £500,00 will join up with his new team mates in Slovenia. (The Scotsman)

Neilson backs Jack for Euro clash

HEARTS head coach Robbie Neilson insists he has no concerns about thrusting young goalkeeper Jack Hamilton into the heat of European action.

Neilson has confirmed the 22-year-old will start the season as the Tynecastle outfit’s number one following Neil Alexander’s departure.

Neilson added: “I’ve got no concerns about throwing him in at all. That is part of football. You need to give boys opportunities and Jack has proven himself the entire time he’s been here that he is ready to step in.” (The Scotsman)

Holt welcomes Ibrox competition

JASON Holt insists he is not fazed by the influx of midfield competition at Rangers this summer.

The 23-year-old faces a fight to keep hold of the slot he made his own last term, with five of Mark Warburton’s new recruits playing in the middle of the park - but the ex-Hearts midfielder reckons that’s a good thing.

He said: “I think it’s great that we’ve signed players like Matt Crooks and Joey Barton, for our squad I think competition is a great thing.

“I’m the same as the rest of the boys and we’re all really looking forward to it and it’s really healthy to have that competition.” (The Scotsman)
