James Forrest knocks back Celtic contract offer

JAMES Forrest has knocked back a new four-year deal at Celtic.

Hoops boss Ronny Deila today revealed that the 24-year-old has told the club he wishes to seek out other options as he sees out the remaining year of his contract. (Evening Times)

Rangers are ‘new club’ claims Harkins

GARY Harkins has taunted Rangers by claiming that the side Dundee may face in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals is not the same as the Rangers he faced pre-2012.

He said: “They’re just a new club. I’ve not played them before, so I’m looking forward to that. It should be good.” (Daily Record)

King unsure of Rangers future

RANGERS loan winger Billy King says he is unsure if his Ibrox loan deal will be made permanent in the summer.

King has made a nunber of substitute appearances for Mark Warburton’s side but could be given more of a chance to shine following injury to Martyn Waghorn. (Scottish Sun)

Deila in warning to ‘lazy’ players

RONNY Deila has warned he will axe lazy players at Celtic after admitting his squad is ‘too big’.

Deila has brought in 23 players since arriving in summer 2014 and has warned his players that anyone not pulling their weight faces the boot in the summer. (Scottish Sun)

Christie eyes starting berth

RYAN Christie is eyeing up a starting role at Celtic as he competes with several other midfielders.

The £500,000 signing was introduced in the 67th minute of Celtic’s 3-0 win over Inverness CT at the weekend.

Christie said: “As soon as all of us step on the park we want to prove a point. We are trying to make an impact to get in that starting XI, so we’re all raring to go.” (The Scotsman)

Vega admits leaving Celtic was a mistake

RAMON Vega has admitted the biggest mistake of his career was turning down the chance to stay at Celtic.

Martin O’Neill took the the Swiss international centre-half on loan from Spurs to the Glasgow club in December 2000. Vega left for Watford with Bobo Balde coming in as his replacement. (Various)

Miller nets 100th league goal

KENNY Miller racked up his 100th goal in the Scottish leagues as Rangers took on Queen of the South at Palmerston on Sunday.

Miller’s 64th minute shot, which initially prompted ironic cheers from the home fans before it looped implausibly into the top corner of the net, was the only goal of the game as Rangers maintained their eight point lead over Hibs. (Daily Record)

Ex-Don to face Manchester Utd

FORMER Aberdeen player Jack Grimmer will line up against Manchester United in the FA Cup tonight.

Shrewsbury star Grimmer recently scored the winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Grimmer is curently on loan from Fulham and became Aberdeen’s youngest ever first team player upon his debut in 2010. (Press and Journal)

Griffiths targets Larsson’s goal record

CELTIC striker Leigh Griffiths only needs another 12 goals this season to make history in the SPFL.

Henrik Larsson and Brian McClair hold the Hoops’ post-war record of 35 goals in a season. Griffiths needs to net 12 in as many games to surpass the record.

The striker said: “I want to make a name for myself and the only way I can do that is by playing well and scoring goals.

“We will see what happens in the future, but it would be great if people were to say ‘Here comes the record goalscorer’.” (Scottish Sun)

Neilson: McGhee red card a ‘game-changer’

HEARTS coach Robbie Neilson slammed referee Kevin Clancy after Jordan McGhee was sent off during the 2-1 defeat to Dundee United.

McGhee received a second yellow card for a tackle on Edward Ofere but TV footage suggested he played the ball.

Neilson said: “I’m sure Kevin will look at it and realise it’s not a second yellow card, but he gets caught up in it and gives it. If the referee makes decisions like that, decisions you believe are wrong, it’s not the players’ fault.” (Edinburgh Evening News)
