Hibs seal derby replay victory over city rivals

Easter Road proved what you always suspected would be the case. It was the only place to be as Hibs secured a home Scottish Cup quarter-final tie with holders Inverness Caledonian Thistle after a narrow win over their fiercest rivals in a pulsating contest decided by Jason Cummings’ early strike. - Hibs’ victory was earned with ten men. Their opponents too were reduced in number, with Blazej Augustyn sent off after 76 minutes for dissent. Hibernian’s Jason Cummings followed him two minutes later, for the same offence, having been booked after celebrating the game’s only goal, which he scored after only four minutes

Scott Brown urges Celtic to give Charlie Mulgrew new contract

Celtic captain Scott Brown has urged manager Ronny Deila and chief executive Peter Lawwell to hand a new deal to his Parkhead and Scotland team-mate Charlie Mulgrew.

Mulgrew, 29, whose current contract is due to expire in June, has been a largely peripheral figure since the Norwegian replaced Neil Lennon in the summer of 2014, starting only 17 of 61 matches in Deila’s first season in charge after sustaining a hamstring tendon injury.

“Ugly” formation wins it for Motherwell

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee awoke in the middle of the night with the “ugly” formation in his mind that could have consigned Dundee United to relegation.

McGhee feels the changes to his side were needed to secure the 3-0 win that leaves the Terrors 13 points adrift at the foot of the Scottish Premiership.

McGhee’s idea was to not only replicate United’s formation but the work-rate from a team desperate to narrow the gap at the foot of the table. (BBC)

Cork City sign Celtic defender O’Connell on loan until July

Cork City have confirmed the signing of Ireland under-21 defender Eoghan O’Connell on loan from Celtic until July.

The 20-year-old Corkman has made five league appearances for Celtic over three seasons since making his debut at the tail end of the 2013/14 season as a starter against Ross County. (ExtraTime.ie)

Willie Collum petition launched

Scottish football fans have started a petition to get Willie Collum removed from his spot at Euro 2016.

The controversial whistler has been criticised for his performance in Inverness Caley Thistle’s victory over Aberdeen last night.

The petition only has 29 signatures so far, but with many supporters annoyed with Collum on a regular basis, many more could end up signing. (Record)

Neil Redfearn reveals why he turned down Kilmarnock

Redfearn said: “I spoke to Kilmarnock out of courtesy because they contacted me. I went up there to talk to them.

“They were really keen, but the most important thing is that it’s right for me and obviously right for them.
