Celtic call on Ajax to oppose Champions League proposals

Peter Lawwell and Neil Doncaster are attempting to pull together a pan European rescue team to block the creation of an invitation only Champions League.

Parkhead chief executive Lawwell has already made contact with Dutch big guns Ajax as he bids to drum up enough support among rebels to bring down the plan to shut smaller nations out of European football’s elite event.

Lawwell has asked the Amsterdam club’s marketing director, former Manchester United keeper Edwin van der Sar, for crunch talks aimed at forming a united front against the proposals which are being championed by Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. (Daily Record)

Kilmarnock agree deal with Clark in time for Rangers tie

Lee Clark is expected to be in charge of Kilmarnock in time for tomorrow night’s Scottish Cup fifth-round replay against Rangers at Rugby Park.

It is understood that the 43-year-old has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal to succeed Gary Locke – who resigned following a 1-0 home defeat by Hamilton Accies on 31 January – and that he will be unveiled at a press conference early this morning. (Scotsman)
