Caixinha makes Rangers wait

Pedro Caixinha has delayed his trip to Glasgow by 24 hours after talks to become the new Rangers manager stalled on Monday.

The 46-year-old was hoping to travel to Scotland to complete the deal to become Mark Warburton’s successor, but the two sides are no closer to agreeing terms. (Daily Record)

Rangers candidate quits

Paul Mitchell, a candidate to become the next director of football at Rangers, has quit as Tottenham Hotspur’s head of recruitment.

Mitchell was on the Ibrox board’s shortlist and the club may now look to hire the 35-year-old as it looks like their move for Southampton’s Ross Wilson is dead in the water. (Daily Record)

Sports Direct deal costing Rangers

The ongoing stand-off between Rangers and Sports Director is costing the Ibrox club more than just millions of pounds, according to a football finance expert.

Tim Bridge, senior partner at the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, believes that not only is merchandise good for revenue, it’s also important for “profile”, “brand affiliation” and “keeping the fans associated with the club”. (Evening Times)

Ravanelli and Ferrer want Motherwell job

Former Champions League winners Fabrizio Ravanelli and Albert Ferrer are among the 50 or so applicants to become the new manager at Motherwell.

Ravanelli had a sparkling playing career with Juventus, Lazio, Marseille, Middlesbrough, and a short stint with Dundee in 2003, while Ferrer starred at right back for both Chelsea and Barcelona. (Daily Express)

James Forrest fitness

James Forrest is facing a race against time in order to be fit for Sunday’s clash between Celtic and Rangers.

The flying winger suffered a knock in the recent victory over Hamilton and has been absent for recent wins over Inverness CT and St Mirren. (Daily Record)

Fans on continent aren’t fussed for Old Firm

While it may be the centre of the world for Scottish football, on the continent fans aren’t particularly enthused by the Old Firm derby, according to BT Sport’s Derek Rae.

The well-travelled commentator says fans are aware of the rivalry and its history, but very few will get excited by the prospect of an upcoming match between our nation’s biggest sides. (Evening Times)

Kilmarnock to wait on new boss

Kilmarnock are in no rush to make a permanent appointment to replace Lee Clark as the club’s manager, and are almost certain to wait until after this weekend’s clash with Ross County at the very least.

Lee McCulloch is currently in charge of the team on the interim basis, and it’s understood both parties are happy with the current arrangement for the meantime. (The Herald)

Petrov backs Dembele and Sinclair

Former Celtic great Stiliyan Petrov has backed either Moussa Dembele or Scott Sinclair to be named the Ladbrokes Premiership’s Player of the Year award winner.

Dembele leads all top flight scorers with 17 league goals, while Sinclair has 15 from midfield. (Evening Times)

McInnes delivers Hibs warning

Derek McInnes has warned his Aberdeen players not to take Hibs lightly when the sides face off in the Scottish Cup semi-final next month.

The Edinburgh side haven’t been beaten by top flight opposition in the competition since losing the 2013 final to Celtic, and have already eliminated Hearts from this year’s tournament. (Press and Journal)

Toshney in contention for Hibs clash

Lewis Toshney is in contention to make his Dundee United return this Friday when the Tannadice side host Hibs in a crunch promotion clash.
