Sutton urges Celtic board to axe Ronny

CHRIS Sutton has called for the Celtic board to sack Ronny Deila before things get even worse.

Celtic were booed off the pitch after the 0-0 draw at home to Dundee while Deila admitted that the title could be lost.

Sutton wrote in a newspaper column: “Just how far does this decline have to go before someone puts a stop to it? I am utterly bemused by the decisions and methods of Deila at the moment.

“I wouldn’t expect, as it stands right now, for Celtic to get through a Europa League qualifier.” (Daily Record)

Gers and Dons keen on McGovern

BOTH Rangers and Aberdeen have been linked with Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Michael McGovern, who is a free agent this summer.

The Hamilton ‘keeper, who is also interesting Hibs, will travel to France with his country for Euro 2016, but could have a new club before the tournament.

Cammy Bell and Maciej Gostomski are both set to leave Ibrox in the close season while Dons boss Derek McInnes is eyeing the 31-year-old as a potential first-choice at Pittodrie. (Scottish Sun)

West Brom join chase for Mulgrew

WEST Brom have reportedly joined the chase for Celtic utility man Charlie Mulgrew, with the 29-year-old set to leave the Hoops in the summer.

The Scotland international has been dogged by injury this season, but has featured in Celtic’s last two matches.

However, the Baggies could face competition from Blackburn Rovers and Bournemouth for Mulgrew. (Various)

New club jibe not needed for motivation - Warburton

Mark Warburton has dismissed any notion of the “new club” jibe from Dundee captain Gary Harkins forming part of Rangers’ motivation ahead of today’s Scottish Cup quarter-final between the teams at Ibrox.

Harkins said last month that he had never played against Rangers before as they were a “new club” following their financial collapse of 2012, in what he called a ‘wee joke’.

But Warburton added: “We have got enough motivation. It is a Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox. There is no need for any special motivation.” (The Scotsman)

Scottish football ‘needs Hibs in top flight’, says Yogi

INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle boss John Hughes has insisted that Scottish football needs Hibs - and Rangers - in the top flight.

Ex-Hibs defender and manager Hughes said: “Their rightful place is in the SPL and they have SPL players. We have to be at it to make sure we stay in the cup.

“Scottish football has missed Hibernian, we have missed Rangers. You cannot have your top clubs, your top-supported clubs, playing their football in the First Division.” (The Scotsman)

Warburton ‘going nowhere’, insists Weir

DAVID Weir has sought to allay fears that Mark Warburton could walk away from Ibrox, insisting both he and the Rangers boss are committed to the club.

Derby are the latest club to be linked with Warburton, who has also been mentioned in connection with a host of other jobs in England.

But Weir said: “We’re only just starting a project that still requires a lot of work. We are not even a year into a three-year plan so nothing has changed in that respect.

“We haven’t had any talks or any thoughts about going elsewhere. I can assure you we are enjoying the job here.” (Scottish Sun)
