Ryan Giggs not replacing Ronny Deila as Celtic manager

Ryan Giggs won’t be leaving Manchester United to take over as Celtic boss.

Louis van Gaal’s Old Trafford number two was absent from his usual seat on United’s bench against Stoke City sparking rumours that he had travelled to Scotland.

It was quickly revealed that the United legend wasn’t pitchside due to a family illness.

But social media had gone into meltdown over the speculation despite Celtic boss Ronny Deila still being in a job at Parkhead. (Manchester Evening News)

McCoist in contention for Killie job

Ally McCoist has emerged as a contender for the vacant Kilmarnock manager’s role.

The former Rangers boss has been out of football since leaving Ibrox late in 2014 and being put on gardening leave.

Deila should be sacked - Andy Walker

Former Celtic striker and Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker believes it’s time manager Ronny Deila was given his marching orders after last night’s loss to Aberdeen.

The latest in a series of disappointments for the Celtic boss saw Aberdeen close the gap at the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership to three points after a 2-1 win at Pittodrie.

“If it was up to me I would change the manager tomorrow,” said Walker after the match. (Sky Sports)

Deila insists he’s still the right man

Ronny Deila has pleaded for calm among the Celtic support amid increasing discontent over his management of the club after their lead at the top of the Premiership was cut to three points with a defeat against nearest challengers Aberdeen.

The Norwegian dismissed suggestions, led by former Celtic striker Andy Walker who was a TV analyst at Pittodrie last night, that he should be dismissed by the club’s board after a loss which came on the back of last Sunday’s League Cup semi-final defeat by Ross County. (The Scotsman)

I’ll always be a Celtic fan - Anthony Stokes

Hibernian striker Anthony Stokes says he’ll always be a Celtic supporter, even if he never again features for his boyhood heroes.

The Irishman is on loan from Celtic and has netted twice in his first two games for Alan Stubbs’ side.

He said: “I’ve always been a Celtic fan and if I ever leave the club I’ll still be a Celtic fan, I’ll still be rooting for them.” (Various)

Mark Warburton a “visionary” - Bert Konterman

Bert Konterman has hailed Mark Warburton as a visionary and believes Rangers now have a chance of beating Celtic.

The former Rangers defender who is now a youth coach with FC Twente was impressed by a talk Warburton gave at a coaching session

at Hampden.

Ashley action against Rangers ‘ridiculous’

A High Court judge has described action brought against Rangers by a sportswear firm run by Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley as “ridiculous”.

Sports Direct has halted the litigation after claiming a breach of confidentiality in relation to a commercial deal. (The Scotsman)

Gallagher jailed as assault appeal refused

Declan Gallagher was sent back to jail today after appeal judges rejected his challenge against his conviction for a brutal attack.

The Livingston captain was sentenced to three years imprisonment last year along with co-accused hairdresser Anthony Murray for the serious assault but was released on bail pending his appeal.

The Scottish Championship side decided to re-sign the player ahead of his legal challenge being heard. (Edinburgh Evening News)

Walker in contention for Edinburgh derby

Jamie Walker played 45 minutes for the Hearts under-20 side yesterday to give himself an outside chance of featuring in Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash with Hibernian at Tynecastle.

The winger has been out since October with a knee injury which needed surgery.
He went under the knife in December and yesterday’s development fixture against Dundee United at Montrose was his first taste of action since the League Cup quarter-final defeat by Celtic on 28 October. (The Scotsman)

Tansey turned down Aberdeen to stay with ICT

Inverness Caledonian Thistle claim midfielder Greg Tansey chose to stay in the Highlands following an offer from Aberdeen.

Aberdeen were baffled by Caley Thistle’s unwillingness to allow Tansey to speak to them after they submitted a £200,000 bid, which they expected would trigger a release clause in his contract.

However, Inverness have since released a statement saying the player wanted to remain in the Highlands. (Various)
