The Australian midfielder has signed a two-year contract at the Global Energy Stadium after a successful loan spell last season.

He is joined by Austria under-21 goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, on a six-month loan from Stoke. Irvine, who made 30 appearances for County last season, said: “I’m delighted to be back at Ross County. I always knew it might be a possibility to come back and join the club permanently and now it’s all agreed I couldn’t be happier.”

Bachmann, who will compete with former Partick Thistle goalkeeper Scott Fox for the jersey, played in County’s 2-0 friendly defeat by NEC Nijmegen on Saturday. He said: “It has all come out of the blue but I am really happy to join Ross County on loan until January.

“I am really looking forward to experiencing the Ladbrokes Premiership and working with the manager and coaching staff during my time here.”
