Richard Foster insists gales should not halt play

ABERDEEN captain Richard Foster does not believe games should be postponed because of high winds, despite the difficulties his side and Hearts faced in Wednesday’s goal-less draw.

Motherwell’s clash with Dunfermline was postponed after gusts of up to 80 miles per hour caused structural damage at Fir Park but all five other Clydesdale Bank Premier League games went ahead in midweek. Aberdeen and Hearts struggled for creativity at Pittodrie as strong winds came in off the North Sea but Foster does not think much can be done about it.

Foster told RedTV: “Especially when the ball is in the air, it’s very difficult to judge. You saw cases where the ball was moving on the deck as well, which isn’t nice to play in. But it’s a difficult one. When do you call the game off?

“Aberdeen’s always windy so at what speed is the wind too much? So I do think they need to go ahead. It’s part of playing for Aberdeen in the winter and you just need to get on with it.”

Foster felt Aberdeen played reasonably well in the circumstances without threatening their visitors too often.

“We played well enough, it was just in the final third we didn’t create any clear-cut chances, but we got into good areas,” Foster said.
