Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed the club are interested in making more signings before the transfer window closes.

However, the Ibrox side won’t rush into any business unless a player strengthens the squad.

With injuries to key midfielder players Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo, both of whom will miss the trip to the capital, as well as former Hibee Brandon Barker, there is an expectation that Gerrard will look to add to his midfield.

There has been mention of Bongani Zungu, the South African international the club were linked heavily with earlier this summer, as well as Preston’s Daniel Johnson.

Gerrard said: "Everyone knows we are always looking for signings but I won't just jump in and take anyone it has to be the right person to strengthen our squad.”

Roofe and Morelos

There was good and bad news from Rangers’ Europa League second qualifying round win over Lincoln Red Imps on Thursday night. Striker Kemar Roofe picked up a calf injury, while on the other hand Alfredo Morelos was back among the goals with a brace.

Roofe is expected to shake off his injury for Sunday’s game, Gerrard confirmed, the player praised for being “sensible” and not taking “any risks”. Leon Balogun should also be fit.

The Ibrox manager was full of praise for Morelos, who prior to Thursday’s match had scored just three goals in 2020.

"Two fantastic finishes from Morelos, he shows his class and touch,” said Gerrard. “Even just to make himself available he showed how robust he is, a lot of players wouldn't have pulled through after the weekend. It is great to see him smiling and he has a great relationship with the players.

“Alfredo is someone who will put his body on the line for the club. He will have a rest day today and then be ready for the weekend.”

Easter Road encounter

Hibs pose Rangers’ hardest fixture of the season so far with Jack Ross’ side impressing in both attack and defence. The Hibees have yet to concede from open play. Something which is likely going to be tested on Sunday with Gerrard confirming his side will be “aggressive and bold”.

He said: “In terms of Hibs, they are a strong team and it will be a tough challenge going to Easter Road but we go with confidence and to attack and win the game. My focus is certainly on us.

“Easter Road will be another tough challenge against an in-form Hibs team but we have confidence we can go and do the job.

"My focus is on Rangers and what we will produce on the day. We are going to go and be aggressive and bold, we are going to try and win the game.”
