The Gers maintained their commanding 23-point lead at the summit of the Scottish Premiership thanks to a 1-0 win over St. Johnstone at Ibrox in midweek.

Steven Gerrard’s men had to rely on a second-half strike from Ianis Hagi to get the job done against the Saints, but Boyd has argued that the psychological impact of their stellar home form this term has given his former club the edge in tight-run clashes on their own turf.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Scottish Football Podcast, he said: “It was a difficult game for Rangers, this one. I was at Rugby Park on Saturday, I watched St. Johnstone come from two goals down against Kilmarnock.

"They’re a dangerous outfit. They’ll cause you problems, and the longer the game went on last night, you could see St. Johnstone getting the belief that they could could get into this game and get something from it.

"Yes, the Ianis Hagi goal ends up being the difference, but Rangers home record this season has been unbelievable.

"Thirteen home games, 12 clean sheets, 39 goals scored, one conceded, 39 points – it is remarkable.

"It is back to what it was. You actually feel as if teams feel as if they’re beaten in the tunnel.”

Rangers only defeat of the season in any competition came away from home against St. Mirren in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final back in December.

Their next game at Ibrox comes against struggling Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on February 13th.
