Steven Gerrard's uncharacteristic actions at full-time summed up his anger at Rangers' performance in Hamilton, says Neil McCann

Neil McCann reckons Steven Gerrard's actions at full-time showed his displeasure with Rangers’ performance in the 1-1 draw with Hamilton.

Gerrard slammed his players for their “worst performance of the season” after Ross Callachan's injury-time equaliser cancelled out a Brian Easton own goal and rescued a deserved point for Accies.

Former Gers winger McCann highlighted the fact that Gerrard uncharacteristically walked straight off the pitch as a sign of his frustration as the unbeaten league leaders dropped points for only the fourth time this season.

"Steven will be disappointed," McCann told BBC Sportsound. "In fact, it's maybe one of the first times I've noticed Steven go right up to the side of the pitch.

"Generally he comes on to the pitch and goes up to the officials and does the little fist bumps to the opposition players but he actually left the dugout and went right up the side of the pitch towards the changing area.

"I think he's really, really hurt and disappointed, and probably a little bit angry because this was a really big opportunity to take another three points and take another big step towards securing the title early.

"We know they are going to do it, but good teams are just relentless and just steamroll the opposition in front of them.

"I don't think many people would have backed against Rangers winning this game, but such was the [Hamilton] spirit and they got a well deserved equaliser.

"Steven Gerrard is hungry to win a title and win it early, and this was a slip-up in my opinion and he'll not want that to continue. Although they are miles ahead and probably too far out of sight of Celtic you just don't want to give any complacency the chance to come into your dressing room."

McCann also felt Rangers players were below bar against the Premiership’s bottom club.

"It's just a little wake-up call that you can’t disrespect the opposition no matter where they lie within the table,” he said.

“I don't think they did disrespect them, but they never played their A game. There were too many players within the Rangers side not playing at the top level, but you can flip that round and say Hamilton didn't allow them to get into top gear.”
