Steven Gerrard names Rangers team to face St Johnstone - Seven changes including James Tavernier injury return update

Steven Gerrard has named his starting team to face St Johnstone for the first of a double-header against the Saintees.

Tonight’s match is in the SPFL Premiership where Rangers are defending an unbeaten run, and the Perth hosts are hoping to keep up their pursuit of fifth place.

The sides meet again on Sunday in the Scottish Cup quarter final – a much more meaningful game with potential silverware on the line – and the Rangers boss has made his selection.

That includes a call being made on returning captain James Tavernier and his deputy at right-back Nathan Patterson – the youngster has a potential ban hanging over him and an appeal against a six-game suspension is yet to be decided, meaning he takes a place in the squad on the bench this evening alongside Calvin Bassey who faces a similar scenario.
