Steven Gerrard insists he is relaxed about Alfredo Morelos’ future beyond the closure of the transfer window on Monday night.

The Colombian international striker has been consistently linked with a move away from Ibrox since the start of the season with French club Lille having a bid of £16 million for the 24-year-old rejected.

Gerrard believes it is inevitable that speculation will continue to surround Morelos but hinted that he expects all of his key players, including his most prolific goalscorer, to still be with the Ibrox club beyond next week.

“I don’t think the questions will ever stop being asked of me about Alfredo,” said Gerrard. “I’ve been asked questions about him ever since I walked through the door two years ago. You know and I know that they are never going to stop.

“I won’t be relieved on Monday, because I’m pretty fine sitting here right now. I’m content with where we are, where the squad’s at, where the team’s at.

“I won’t be rubbing my hands together when the transfer window shuts, I’ll just be carrying on every day like I normally do.”

While retaining leading players such as Morelos, captain James Tavernier and winger Ryan Kent are priorities for Gerrard, he has been consistent in his belief Rangers also need to make further additions to their squad before Monday night.

But he accepts that will be affected by both the financial impact of Covid-19 on Rangers’ budget and whether his team can defeat Galatasaray at Ibrox on Thursday night to reach the lucrative group stage of the Europa League.

“I've made it pretty clear what I feel we need,” added Gerrard. “But I also respect the board's position in the current climate and the situation that we're in.

“I do think that, depending on whether we qualify or not, would depend on what we try and do in the final days.

“But that's a question for people who are above me at the club. I can't really answer that question right now but I've made it pretty clear what I feel we need to keep moving forward, to make sure that we don't stand still.”
