Scottish Football RECAP: Hibs near six-figure striker signing, Aberdeen accept HUGE offer for star, Rangers star joins Premiership rivals, Celtic target on verge of €3.5m move

All the latest news, transfer speculation and more from around the SPFL

On Wednesday it was revealed that the Hearts and Partick Thistle legal challenge against their relegation from the Premiership and Championship respectively at an independent tribunal is set to take place next week. It would be naive to expect the whole matter to be concluded in a week’s time but more clarity should be provided by then.

It is hard to fathom that there are just over three weeks until football returns to Scotland, and fans are likely to be treated to 13 live games in August alone, as long as the Premiership season kicks off in a timely manner.

Celtic can expect competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of young striker Joe Gelhardt.

The 18-year-old is highly thought of and is expected to leave Wigan following the club being placed into administration.

Rangers youngster tipped for key role

Ex-Rangers star has tipped Ibrox starlet Lewis Mayo to step into the defensive void left by Nikola Katic’s injury.

The centre-back is ruled out for six months following cruciate ligament damage.

Hutton told Football Insider: “This is an ideal opportunity to look at the youth set-up and players. There’s been a lot of talk about a lot of the young ones, like Lewis Mayo, coming through and into the squad so it’s a great opportunity for himself, he can impress in this short pre-season to force your way through.”

The 20-year-old spent time on loan at Partick Thistle last season, managing three appearances before the league shutdown.
