Speaking on Tuesday morning, Wright confirmed he expected backlash from the move due to the history between Aberdeen and Rangers but it was a switch he had to make to take his game to the “next level”.

The 23-year-old has played 20 times this campaign and made just under 80 appearances altogether for Aberdeen.

He follows Ryan Jack in making such a move.

He said: "I'm very thankful to all the staff at Aberdeen for taking care of me on my journey but for me, it is now time to focus on Rangers and breaking into the team.

“Most importantly for me is to fit into the team, no matter the position and try and make it my own.

“There was always going to be a bit of a backlash, I expected that but it was a decision I had to make.

“Joining such a massive club I think can take me to the next level and I can't wait to get started.”

He added:” It's great to have a friendly face here in Ryan Jack but all the boys and staff have been so welcoming.”

Wright joined alongside Jack Simpson on Monday, while Rangers confirmed today that midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh had signed a pre-contract agreement and will join when his Bournemouth deal expires at the end of the season.
