'Rangers have the look of champions': Pundits lavish league leaders but slate sorry Dons display

Kris Boyd says ‘everything is rosy for Rangers’ following their 4-0 demolition of Aberdeen which moved them 11 points clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership.

Ryan Kent scored a stunner from distance to set Steven Gerrard’s side on their way and Kemar Roofe added another before second half strikes from the ever-reliable Scott Arfield and James Tavernier racked up the goal advantage.

But many of the pundits analysing the game afterwards highlighted the meek opposition Aberdeen formed and most agreed, Rangers could have notched more than four.

And former striker Boyd believed his former club look set for the title and have ‘the look of champions’.

He said: “You don't want to lose a training ground game whether it's 2v2, 4v4 or 6v6 – you just don't want to lose and this Rangers team definitely has a look of champions round about it. There is no doubt about it.

"They look relentless and ruthless and just want to keep going. When you look at the way they dismantled Aberdeen in the first half they could have probably scored more.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ live coverage of the game he added: “Everything is rosy right now for Rangers.”

But while the compliments flowed for Steven Gerrard’s side, the depleted Aberdeen side did not impress.

Another former Rangers striker Billy Dodds said: “I thought this would have been a tougher game for them, they might have to work harder and win by a goal or two - i didn’t expect four going on six or seven.

"It was Rangers at their best but certainly not Aberdeen at their best and Derek McInnes, even though they’re missing the players, he’ll be disappointed with the performance. The way he wanted to play was to keep it tight and compact and they didn’t do that.

Adding on BBC Sportsound: “It was too easy, from an Aberdeen point of view it was a poor performance but that’s the way Rangers have been all season.”

Another player for both sides Richard Foster added: “I struggle to remember a meaningful tackle from an Aberdeen player, there were plenty form Scott Arfield. His energy and drive is what Aberdeen should have had - they fell short.

“They were far too deep and too passive.”
