Both ex-Aberdeen winger Wright, and former Bournemouth defender Simpson have been added to Rangers’ Europa League squad which will resume later this month with a trip to Belgium to face Royal Antwerp.

Wright assumes Brandon Barker’s squad place while Simpson steps into the additional 25th space in the squad.

The defender has taken George Edmundson’s shirt number in Steven Gerrard’s new-look squad list but the defender, now on-loan at Derby County – was one of the first-team squad left out of the original European selection pool. Likewise, there remains no place for Jermain Defoe, who was omitted from the original group stage set of 24 – nor Jordan Jones - who completed a loan move to Sunderland last month and was left out of the original squad despite featuring in the 4-0 qualifying round win over WIllem II in Holland.

Rangers have selected the new signings as part of their ‘A’ list group of 25 – a squad supplemented by a ‘B’ list of homegrown and trained young players, which includes the likes of Ciaran Dickson and Leon King who have both made their club debuts this season.

Summer signings Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe, as well as deadline day capture Bongani Zungu are also in the squad.

Rangers head to Belgium for the first leg of their last 32 knock-out round clash with Royal Antwerp on February 18 with the return at Ibrox a week later.
