Weir happy to return for legends match

FORMER Rangers captain David Weir has confirmed he will return to Ibrox to play in the Legends match against AC Milan Glorie a week tomorrow.

The former Scotland defender, who left Rangers in January and has taken up a coaching position at Everton, says running back out at Ibrox to play will be a special feeling.

“It will be nice to see a few familiar faces and it will do a lot to lift some spirits around the club,” said Weir, who captained Rangers to three titles in a row as he played on until the age of 41.

“It’s been a tough time for everyone at Rangers, we all know that, but a match like this will excite the supporters and the players involved.

“It’s a night everyone will be able to enjoy.”

Rangers Legends will be managed by Weir’s old Ibrox, Everton and Scotland boss Walter Smith and include Ally McCoist, Brian Laudrup, Paul Gascoigne, Andy Goram, Lorenzo Amoruso, Jorg Albertz, Michael Mols and Arthur Numan.

Franco Baresi’s Milan squad boasts Paolo Maldini, Jean-Pierre Papin, Christian Panucci, Gianluigi Lentini and Zvonimir Boban.
