ALLY McCoist is facing the biggest test of his fledgling managerial career as the confidence within his Rangers team bleeds profusely.

Although Saturday lunchtime’s loss at St Mirren Park was only the second league defeat of the season, it felt more significant, being entirely merited and now making the game at Celtic Park tonight so important.

It was yet another performance lacking in craft, guile and genuine quality.

St Mirren were dogged and energetic and the result has left Rangers clinging to the Scottish Premier League summit by our fingertips, with Celtic building some momentum.

Our big hitters aren’t producing the goods and it’s hard to see where the inspiration will come from.

We are in desperate need of a good transfer window. Humbug!
