Saha joins Spurs, while QPR land Zamora

Striker Louis Saha left Everton to join Tottenham Hotspur last night. The 33-year-old had six months remaining on his deal at Goodison but has been allowed to move to White Hart Lane.

Saha has managed 20 appearances this season, scoring just twice. “Striker Louis Saha has left Everton to join Tottenham,” confirmed a statement on Everton’s website just before last night’s 11pm deadline. Everton then re-signed midfielder Steven Pienaar on loan from Spurs until the end of the season. And White Hart Lane manager Harry Redknapp revealed that Russian striker Roman Pavyluchenko had joined Lokomotiv Moscow.

QPR were one of the biggest movers on deadline day, manager Mark Hughes bolstering his attack with the signings of Bobby Zamora from west London rivals Fulham and French forward Djibril Cisse from Lazio.

Zamora, 31, had been regularly linked with a January move away from the Cottagers. QPR confirmed the player signed a two-and-a-half-year deal for a fee that is understood to be worth £6million-plus.

Only Barclays Premier League bottom side Wigan have netted fewer goals (19) in the first 22 matches than QPR, and so Hughes has also recruited 30-year-old Cisse, formerly of Liverpool and Sunderland. He leaves Serie A for a two-and-a-half-year contract believed to be worth £4.1m.

Cisse told qpr.co.uk: “I have unfinished business here in England. For the type of player I am, I need space, I like fast football in a good atmosphere and all these things are in England. I am really happy to be back and have the opportunity to help QPR. We can do great things with the players we have in the squad.”

Manchester City, meanwhile, have completed the signing of midfielder David Pizarro from Roma on loan until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old Chile international, who has made only seven appearances for the Serie A side this season, renews his links with City manager Roberto Mancini, who he previously played under at Inter Milan. Mancini said: “Pizarro is a good player. I think he can help us in the next three months.”

Former Rangers defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos became Sunderland’s second signing. The 32-year-old centre-half joined on loan from Wolfsburg to follow Manchester City’s Wayne Bridge to the Stadium of Light after the left-back agreed a temporary spell in the north-east.

“I’m hoping that with Wayne’s experience and ability he can be a big help to the team,” said manager Martin O’Neill. “Sotirios offers a real physical presence.”

Chelsea finalised a five-and-a-half-year deal with Genk’s 20-year-old Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne before he returned to his former club on loan until the end of the season.

Fulham completed the signing of Stuttgart striker Pavel Pogrebnyak on a six-month contract. Martin Jol had been after a striker throughout the January transfer window and finally secured the signing of the Russia international last night.
