The Rams will host the Ibrox side a week before the Scottish Championship season begins, at the iPro Stadium on Saturday, August 2.

Derby, managed by ex-England boss Steve McClaren, just missed out on promotion to the English Premier League, finding themselves pipped at the post by Queens Park Rangers.

The match will bring Rangers’ pre-season campaign to a close, following matches against Buckie Thistle and Brora Rangers, before travelling to America and Canada, where they will take on Ventura County Fusion, Sacramento Republic FC, Victoria Highlanders and Ottawa Fury FC in July.

Ally McCoist told the Rangers website: “It’s a great game for us. Derby County were very unlucky not to clinch promotion to England’s top flight last season so they will certainly give our boys a tough test.

“Steve McClaren has done an outstanding job since taking over as manager last season and he has a squad of talented players with a Scottish contingent, which includes Johnny Russell who has impressed since moving down south.

“Our squad will have featured in six pre-season friendlies before we meet Derby County and this match will certainly help us prepare for our Championship campaign.”

Rangers were originally due to compete in the first round of the League Cup on the weekend of August 2 and 3, but an announcement on the rearranged date will become available soon.
