Rangers cup revenge not on agenda for MacPherson

MacPherson was the manager of St Mirren when the Paisley side lost the 2010 final to a nine- man Rangers. Even the fact that Kenny Miller, who scored the only goal after Kevin Thomson and Danny Wilson had been sent off, has returned to Rangers has not allowed MacPherson to think of retribution.

“This game has nothing to do with revenge or anything like that,” he said. “This game is not about me or the past, it is about Queen’s Park and Rangers now. You quickly realise when you go into management it is not about you and your history as a player or a manager.”

The clubs have not met in the League Cup since 1991, but they are not strangers as they faced each other in the Third Division two seasons ago when Rangers began their climb back up the Scottish football ladder.

MacPherson also reckons that those games have no effect on this one, as he said: “We have a completely different group of players from then. We have two, perhaps three, players still within our group and that shows you the changing nature of football.”

The game will be played at Airdrie as Hampden Park is out of commission to the amateurs due to the Commonwealth Games.

However, it will require to be moved from the 2 August date due to the policing involved in Glasgow at that time, with landlords Airdrie due to be at home on that date in any case.
