RANGERS

GK - Wes Foderingham - 6

Peterhead had two great chances, one of which hit the side netting and another was cleared off the line, meaning the English stopper had little to do all game.

He was his usual menace in attack. Aside from a terrific strike for Rangers’ second goal, the full-back put in a low cross that really should have been tapped home by Miller.

CB - Danny Wilson - 7

Good distribution from the defender who often has that side of his game questioned. A drive forward from defence to the edge of the Peterhead penalty area set in motion the chain of events that would lead to Tavernier’s goal.

CB - Rob Kiernan - 6

The weak link of the back-line on the day. A clumsy clearance almost led to Peterhead getting back into the match at 1-0, while he also made a bizarre back pass that went straight out for a corner. Did help keep Rory McAllister quiet for the most part, though.

LB - Lee Wallace - 6

Didn’t manage to influence the game further forward in the manner he usually does but was still solid in defence. Substituted in the second half.

DM - Dominic Ball - 7

Did a solid job sitting in front of the back four, which enabled Wilson and Kiernan to split out further in defence, helping Rangers to dominate possession in the manner we’ve become accustomed to.

MR - Harry Forrester - 7

It was the midfielder’s presence that pressured Ally Gilchrist into turning the ball into the back of his own net for the opener. He stayed a threat until being forced from the action through injury.

MC - Jason Holt - 7

Though he was a little quite in the middle of the park he still made a telling contribution to the full time score with a clearance off the line just before the half. He then later won the penalty from which Andy Halliday made it 3-0.

MC - Andy Halliday - 9

Terrific performance from the player living a boyhood dream by representing Rangers in a Hampden final - even if it was a lower league competition. Excellent distribution throughout and a real threat running into the penalty area. Should have scored twice before finally netting from the penalty spot.

ML - Barrie McKay - 8

After a quiet first half he really came on to a game. Had a bursting run down the left that forced a last ditch clearance and created a late chance for Kenny Miller.

FC - Kenny Miller - 8

Missed a couple of great chances but was a menace for the Peterhead defence throughout. His clever flick teed the ball up nicely for Tavernier’s strike and finally managed to get on the scoresheet by netting the fourth.

SUBSTITUTES

MR - Michael O’Halloran - 7

Run down the right led to Rangers’ fourth goal.

LM - Billy King - 6

Couple of nice touches after coming on for Lee Wallace.

Dean Shiels - 6

Played some nice passes in the centre.

PETERHEAD

GK - Graeme Smith - 8

Excellent display from the former Rangers stopper against his old side. He could do nothing at any of the four goals and kept the score down with a number of eye-catching stops, the best of which was a close range reaction stop to deny Andy Halliday.

RB - Steven Ross - 6

A little sloppy in possession at right back though improved when he moved into the centre. Unlucky not to score when Holt cleared his header off the line.

CB - Ally Gilchrist - 6

Looked capable of putting in a towering performance with a great challenge on Tavernier and heading Halliday’s shot over in the early going. However, it was the defender who put Rangers on the road to victory with his 17th minute own goal.

CB - Ryan Strachan - 4

Rush of blood saw him charge out of defence, concede possession and almost see Holt run clean through in the first minute. Was taken off with an injury 25 minutes in.

LB - Steven Noble - 6

Blotted his copybook with a late foul on Jason Holt that won Rangers a penalty. Otherwise he was solid at the back.

MR - Shane Sutherland - 4

Gave the ball away in the build up to the opening goal and couldn’t do enough to contribute to the attack.

MC - Simon Ferry - 6

Battled away in the centre of the park and didn’t hesitate to put in a strong challenge or two.

MC - Kevin Dzierzawski - 7

Peterhead were almost going to concede the possession battle, though the American can be proud of his performance as he used the ball intelligently when he could. Almost notched an assist when Ross’ header of his cross was cleared off the line.

ML - Jamie Redman - 5

Tracking Tavernier took up most of his concentration, thereby limiting what he could do in attack. He, along with the rest of his team-mates, can be proud with the effort they showed despite the defeat.

AM - Jordon Brown - 5

Tasked with linking midfield and attack but was forced to feed off scraps. Caught a little on his heels when McAllister put a tantalising ball across the face of goal.

FC - Rory McAllister - 5

Had a couple of opportunities to make things happen on the counter-attack but held on to the ball too long. Did a power of running even if he didn’t impact the score.

SUBSTITUTES

RB - Jamie Stevenson - 6

Solid enough performance from the career midfielder at right back

MR - Nicky Riley - 6

Provided a burst of energy and unlucky to hit the side netting.

FC - Leighton McIntosh - 4

Thrown on in a desperate attempt to get Peterhead back into the match
