Former Scotland striker Miller’s contract at Vancouver Whitecaps was terminated by mutual consent this week and the 34-year-old is being strongly linked with a third spell with Rangers.

McLeish, who managed Miller at Hibs, Rangers and for the national team, has no doubt the much-travelled front man would make a positive impact for Ally McCoist’s side in the Championship next season.

“I definitely think Kenny can still do a good job here,” said McLeish. “He is a fit guy, a good professional and he looks after himself.

“When your legs go as a player, they go. Sometimes the last person to see that is the player himself. But Kenny has still been playing to a good level in the Major Soccer League with Vancouver.”

McLeish insists McCoist is justified in strengthening his squad despite the ongoing financial problems at Rangers.
