Kenny McDowall happy to stay as Rangers coach

RANGERS’ interim manager Kenny McDowall has revealed that he would be prepared to work under a new appointment if new owner Dave King and his board decide to bring someone else in to take control of the team.

McDowall, who had been the assistant to the previous incumbent, Ally McCoist, is currently working his way through a notice period which will end in January, 2016.

He has never been comfortable in the spotlight since being promoted after McCoist had been placed on gardening leave by the previous board shortly before Christmas.

McDowall is aware how vital it is for King’s new regime that Rangers can negotiate a safe passage through the play-offs and into the Premiership for the first time next season.

Many Rangers supporters harbour doubts about his suitability for the job and McDowall would be content for someone else to take centre stage.

“I’ve intimated that I’m working my notice and, if the club need me, I’m here,” he said. “If they want to bring someone else in, it’ll be their right to do that.

“I don’t have a problem either way. While I’m here, I’ll continue to give 110 per cent because the club is far more important than me.

“If I’ve to take the team until the end of the season, I’ll do my best to get them promoted. That’s the job. So, if it’s me, fine, but if not, that’s fine as well. The terms of my contract are such that I have to honour them. I wouldn’t have a problem with helping a new manager should one come in.”
