Davis hopes win will lift fans after Kilmarnock defeat

RANGERS captain Steven Davis celebrated a convincing win over Inverness and admitted he was feeling the pressure of the club’s off-the-field problems.

“Without doubt it’s been one of the most testing times in my career,” said Davis. “We’ve tried to stick together and do ourselves justice.”

The win in Inverness came after a disappointing defeat to Kilmarnock at Ibrox eight days ago, and Davis hopes the players went some way to making up for that.

He added: “I think we felt that we’d let the fans down a little bit last week, although things didn’t go for us during the 90 minutes.

“Before the game against Kilmarnock the fans were lined up in the street outside the dressing room and everyone was right up for the game.

“So today it was nice to put in a good performance for them and give them a lift too.

“Everybody at the club needs a boost and as players we’re able to give them that on the pitch.

“It was nice to be able to do that today, and for us as well it’s good to get a win when there has been so much negativity about the club.”

Davis, who opened the scoring, continued: “We created a number of chances and took our goals well. Overall it was just a good team performance from everyone.

“The manager has been encouraging us as midfielders to get forward and get ourselves in positions to score.

“It’s not always easy to do that but it’s been nice to get a few recently and I hope I can continue that for the rest of the season.”
