Ally McCoist ‘on verge of quitting Rangers’ - report

ALLY McCoist is poised to quit Rangers after learning of a plot to oust him, it was reported this morning.

McCoist, 49, reportedly confronted Charles Green, who is leading a consortium to take over the stricken club, after learning earlier this week that he would play no part in his plans for a newco club.

Club legend McCoist, who replaced Walter Smith in the Ibrox dugout last year, is a fans’ favourite who has overseen the most turbulent spell in Rangers’ 140-year history.

The source in the Daily Record report claims that, although McCoist is reluctant to go, he could announce his decision in the next 48 hours.

Rangers have declined to comment on the story today.

The Ibrox club are facing liquidation after it emerged this week that HM Revenue and Customs would reject a Company Voluntary Arrangement at a meeting of creditors today.

It remains unclear whether they will be allowed back into the Scottish Premier League next season, with chairmen due to vote on the matter.
