Michael Stewart has highlighted the underlying movement in Rangers’ formation that has played a key factor in the home side’s performance at Ibrox – where Rangers lead Hibs 1-0.

Ianis Hagi gave Rangers the first half lead, steering Kemar Roofe’s low cross past Dillon Barnes – though Rangers were given an early scare when Martin Boyle went close after just a minute.

Rangers heeded the warning and enjoyed significant possession in the first half as well as the lead, though Hibs have had breakaways to keep the Connor Goldson and Allan McGregor on their toes.

That possession is a factor of Rangers’ play this season and BBC pundit Michel Stewart highlighted the players’ movement which has made life so difficult for opposition teams facing the league leaders this season.

Speaking on Sportsound during the half-time interval the former Hibs and Hearts midfielder said: “The thing Rangers do really well is they have a formation but it is not rigid and they don't just have players standing in certain areas.

"The Interchange between the players is very impressive when one player drifts into another area another player recognises the space and gets into it and that's when it is difficult for opponents to pick up, when the player they are expecting to be marking is 20 yards away somewhere else.

"The communication has got to be good between the Hibs players to make sure they are not being dragged all over the place that will be key in the second half.”
