Rangers to sign Graham Dorrans on three-year deal

Scotland international midfielder Dorrans is scheduled to undergo a medical in Glasgow today after Rangers finally agreed a transfer fee in the region of £1 million with Norwich City for his services. Two previous bids from Rangers for the 30-year-old were turned down last month.

Dorrans, a boyhood Rangers supporter, is understood to have agreed a three-year deal as he joins a squad being radically revamped by manager Pedro Caixinha.

While Dorrans prepares to check in, McKay’s departure was close to being finalised last night as he travelled south for a medical at Forest. The English Championship club, now managed by former Rangers boss Mark Warburton, will pay around £500,000 for the 22-year-old winger who had just one year remaining on his contract at Ibrox and rejected the offer of a new deal.

For Dorrans, his career will come full circle as he started out as a youth trainee with Rangers before signing professional forms at Livingston. His performances for the West Lothian club earned him a £200,000 move to West Bromwich Albion in 2008.

Dorrans spent seven seasons with West Brom – six of them in the Premier League – before he joined Norwich City in the summer of 2015 after an initial loan spell with the Carrow Road outfit. He has been capped 12 times for Scotland, although has not appeared for his country since the 6-0 win over Gibraltar in October 2015.

Rangers manager Caixinha continues to dramatically overhaul the group of personnel he inherited from Warburton at the end of last season. Dorrans follows Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Dalcio, Fabio Cardoso, Daniel Candeias, Alfredo Morelos, Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Pena as a new arrival at Ibrox.

McKay joins a list of departures which has so far seen defenders Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos exit the club upon the expiry of their contracts, striker Joe Garner sold to Ipswich Town and midfielder Andy Halliday loaned out to Azerbaijani club Gabala.

Having turned down Rangers’ offer of a new contract last season, McKay latterly fell out of favour with Caixinha. With only 12 months remaining on his existing deal, Rangers were content to accept Forest’s offer.

McKay made his debut for Rangers as a 17-year-old in the Ibrox club’s first match following the consequences of their financial collapse in 2012, scoring the opener in a Challenge Cup tie at Brechin City in July of that year.

He was a regular in the side for the rest of that campaign but was then loaned out twice by manager Ally McCoist, to Morton in 2013-14 and Raith Rovers the following season.

McKay began to flourish at Rangers following the arrival of Warburton in the summer of 2015. He was a significant contributor to their convincing Championship title success, while the highlight of his campaign was a stunning long-range goal at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Celtic.

McKay’s form was sufficient to earn him a call-up to the senior Scotland squad in the summer of 2016, winning his first and so far only cap as a late substitute in the 3-0 friendly defeat to France in Metz.

Although less consistent last season in Rangers’ first season back in the top flight, McKay remained one of their more eye-catching performers.

He is expected to sign a four-year contract with Forest where he will be reunited with manager Warburton and his assistant David Weir, while becoming a team-mate of the former Hibernian striker Jason Cummings who moved to the City Ground last month in a deal worth close to £1 million.
