Waghorn netted the equaliser in the match before pulling up while chasing for a ball close to the Hamilton byline.

Initially it was feared the injury was a hamstring tear, which could have put the attacker out for as long as three months.

But Waghorn put those concerns to rest, using his Twitter feed to tell supporters he’ll be back in a fortnight.

He tweeted: “Good result, not as bad as it could have been. Roughly 2 weeks out, hard work has begun to come back stronger. Thank u 4 the support!”

Manager Mark Warburton admitted the news came as a relief.

The Ibrox boss told his club’s official website: “Martyn had a scan this week and hopefully it is just a grade one or two tear we are looking at, so two to three weeks, fingers crossed, which is good news.

“It is a relief in a way because straight after the incident you saw the distress he was in in terms of the injury and it looked bad at the time.

“The medical team looked after him well, he’s scanned well, presented well so fingers crossed it’s far less worse than first expected.”

Warburton confirmed defenders Danny Wilson and Lee Wallace would be available for the Dens Park trip after missing the midweek cup win over Peterhead with a sickness bug.

Former Accrington pair Josh Windass (nerve) and Matt Crooks (ankle) are both close to returning to training.
