Craig Gordon - 7

Didn’t have a whole lot to do during the 120 minutes after denying Miller early on. Could do very little to stop either of the goals and did manage to repel one of the penalty kicks.

Mikael Lustig - 6

Really poor first half when he continually gave away possession and failed to stand up to the test defensively. Slowly improved thereafter and was one of Celtic’s better players in the extra-time period.

Dedryck Boyata - 2

Completely overawed by the occasion. Made his usual howler to almost let Miller take the ball off his toes when he was the last time of defence, getting away with conceding a foul. However, he was not so fortunate when his needless charge into Jason Holt set in motion the chain of events that led to Rangers’ opener. Subbed for his own good after 25 minutes.

Charlie Mulgrew - 7

Showed composure and confidence when on the football, which was required in the face of Rangers’ pressing. Would probably have been more relieved than anyone to see his original centre back partnering leaving the field of play.

Kieran Tierney - 8

Yet again the full back was Celtic’s stand-out performer. How many times this season have the Celtic players been shown up by their teenage team-mate? While solid in defence throughout, it did take him until the latter stages of the second half to begin causing Rangers problems in attack. Would notch an assist after picking out Rogic for the second equaliser.

Scott Brown - 4

Celtic needed their captain to be a driving force in this match and it simply wasn’t the case. Aside from an early shot that fizzed wide of the far post, he failed to impose himself on proceedings. His passing was off and he was ran rings around by his Rangers counterparts in the centre. Tellingly, it was Brown that McKay sold one way then the next before unleashing the thunderous shot that put Rangers 2-1 up. Topped it off by missing a penalty.

Nir Bitton - 6

Though equally ponderous in possession as his centre midfield partner, at least Bitton continually got himself back into sound defensive areas to halt promising Rangers’ attacks. Had the opportunity to unleash a couple of long-range efforts.

Patrick Roberts - 7

Always looked threatening whenever he cut-inside off the right flank though he’ll forever be remembered for having one of the worst misses in recent Old Firm derby history. Gets a couple of extra points for his excellent set-piece delivery, including the cross that Sviatchenko nodded into the back of the net for the equaliser.

Stefan Johansen - 6

At times he looked like the only Celtic player capable of making an incisive ball, then he’d go and misplace a five-yard pass. Was taken off for Rogic before the 90 minutes were up.

Gary Mackay-Steven - 5

Similar to Shiels for Rangers, the winger worked hard to get up and down the field, with Tavernier operating on his side of the park. However, he never impacted the attack in any meaningful way.

Leigh Griffiths - 7

The striker hit the post with a first half shot and then crashed one off the crossbar following a terrific finger-tip stop from Foderingham. He remained a threat throughout the match even though there was very little in the way of service.

SUBSTITUTES

Erik Sviatchenko - 8

Considering it was Boyata’s foul that led to Rangers’ goal, the decision to start the Belgian ahead of Sviatchenko is one that may forever haunt Ronny Deila. The Danish defender was so much more dominant at the back and headed his side level shortly after the half.

Callum McGregor - 6

Provided a little more hard running than Mackay-Steven and slipped through a terrific pass for Rogic but was another who couldn’t do much to influence the attack. Missed in the shootout.

Tom Rogic - 7

Can feel hard done by not to have started ahead of Johansen given how their respective seasons have gone, and proved it with the equalising goal in extra-time. His ballooned penalty was the decisive miss that gave Rangers the win.
