Rangers announced the signing of Joe Garner from Preston North End before the match and the striker watched the game from the stand.

But it was Motherwell who took the initiative at Ibrox, McDonald scoring from close range following a pass from Marvin Johnson.

Rangers were struggling to get a grip of the game and Warburton introduced Niko Kranjcar and Joe Dodoo from the bench.

The breakthrough came shortly afterwards, with Forrester netting from outside the box.

The match looked to be heading for a draw until Miller struck in injury time to put Rangers top of the Premiership on seven points, one ahead of Celtic, who have a game in hand, and Ross County.
