Raith Rovers 2 - 2 Ayr United: All square in relegation battle

THE Ayr fans chanted: “We are staying up” but, if Raith Rovers continue to show this kind of never-say-die spirit, then it may not be as clear-cut.

This felt like a victory for the Kirkcaldy men as substitute Damian Casalinuovo’s dramatic strike nearly four minutes into stoppage time earned them a crucial point in the relegation battle.

Brian Graham went from hero to villain after giving John McGlynn’s side a 13th-minute lead before seeing red for a head-butt on Ayr full-back Eddie Malone.

Mark Roberts swept in the equaliser from the spot after Liam Tomsett had been brought down in the box by Laurie Ellis and Malone curled in what looked to be the winner with a magnificent free-kick 11 minutes from time.

However, although Ayr remain in third bottom spot ahead of Raith in the relegation play-off spot, Casalinuovo’s late, late equaliser sent Rovers home happiest.
