Raith Rovers 0 - 1 Livingston: Craig Barr goal leave Raith rooted at the bottom

THE current season just seems to go from bad to worse for Raith Rovers, John McGlynn’s men succumbing to their ninth league defeat of the campaign at Stark’s Park yesterday.

The Fifers were comprehensively outplayed by a confident Livingston side to leave them firmly anchored at the foot of the First Division table.

With all four of their on-loan Hearts signings in the starting line-up, Rovers began the game brightly enough, Tynecastle midfielder David Smith setting up an early chance for fellow Jambo Jamie Walker who shot narrowly over Andy McNeil’s cross bar from 20 yards out. Denis Prychynenko, yet another member of the four-pronged Gorgie influx, then rattled the crossbar with a well-struck 25-yard free kick but by then the visitors were looking considerably more comfortable on the ball and they almost edged in front late in the first half when central defender Craig Barr headed narrowly wide from Mark Fotheringham’s corner.

Liam Fox squandered an excellent opportunity to put Livingston in front shortly after the restart when he shot high over David McGurn’s cross bar from only three yards but Barr broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, heading home powerfully from a Fotheringham corner for what proved to be the winning goal.
