Livingston confirm the signing of Simon Mensing

LIVINGSTON have completed the signing of former St Johnstone and Hamilton defender Simon Mensing, who has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Almondvale following his move from Raith Rovers.

The 30-year-old becomes the West Lothian club’s second signing of the close season, following Alloa striker Callum Elliot’s decision to sign a pre-contract agreement.

Mensing, who made 32 appearances for the Stark’s Park side last season, netting two goals, told Livingston’s official website that he was looking forward to joining up with the young squad.

He said: “Having spoken to the management team, I was impressed with their vision for the club, where they want to take it, and the type of football they want to play.

“I’m already looking forward to getting started in a few weeks time.”

The versatile defender has performed in a variety of roles during his career, including right wingback, and central midfield at Hamilton, but expects to be utilised in defence for the Lions.

He added: “As well as defending it’s important to do a lot of talking and organising and I think that’s another aspect of the game I can bring to Livingston.”

Assistant manager Mark Burchill said that Mensing had been the ‘first choice’ target as he and manager Richie Burke looked to strengthen the squad.

He said: “Richie and myself felt that getting a leader in at the back was vital...and Simon fits that bill one-hundred per cent.

“He’s got a strong mentality and will add a bit of steel to the team, but he’s also a very good footballer and we’re delighted to get him on board.”
