How a Raith Rovers shirt ended up in the Gambia

THOSE of you with a penchant for Kirkcaldy football teams may have noticed an unusual picture appearing on social networking sites over the weekend.

The picture - originally posted by Raith Rovers sponsors LiveSport.co.uk on Twitter - shows a group of people in the Gambia, two of whom are wearing football shirts, with one proudly sporting the Stark’s Park club’s change kit for this year.

Although not uncommon to see football shirts from a host of clubs in African countries due to the large number of football kit charities, strips from Scottish Championship sides are perhaps less common among the Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid tops.

Morag Cunningham, an avid fan of Raith Rovers travelled to the Gambia for a week, as part of a Lloyds TSB charity group, taking the away shirt with her to give to a local.

A spokesperson for LiveSport.co.uk said: “We are clearly delighted that the clothing is finding its way to those less fortunate than ourselves. As a company LiveSport.co.uk regularly dispatch a number of Raith Rovers away shirts to various local sports clubs we sponsor along with dropping batches of the shirts into various charity clothing boxes around Fife.”

The company are also involved with sponsorship at Glenrothes Strollers FC, Glenrothes Athletic FC and Glenrothes Cricket Club.
