Queen's Park lose to Annan but still make play-offs

Queen's Park secured a play-off semi-final encounter against Cowdenbeath despite falling to a 1-0 loss at Annan Athletic who slip out of the play-offs on goal difference. A header by Peter Weatherson in the 43rd minute was enough for Annan to win the game but with other '¨play-off contnders winning, Annan fell short of the three-goal winning margin.

Elgin City ensured a second-place finish with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Arbroath at Borough Briggs. Kyle MacLeod headed the home side into a fifth minute lead from a cross by Brian Cameron who then netted himself from the penalty spot. Midway through the second period, Cameron doubled his tally and, after Josh Skelly briefly reduced Arbroath’s arrears, Craig Gunn restored Elgin’s three-goal cushion.

Elgin now enter the play-offs where they will contest a semi-final with Clyde who finish third following a deserved 3-1 victory over Stirling Albion. David Marsh fired the Bully Wee into a 14th minute lead after which the home side were scarcely troubled. Marsh notched a second before half-time and David Gormleyadded a third. Stirling pulled one back through a stunning Scott Burns strike but the visitors ended the season languishing in seventh spot.

East Stirling warmed up for the relegation play-off against Edinburgh City with a credible 1-1 draw at champions East Fife. Michael McMullin put the Shire ahead after 51 minutes only for the Fifers to level two minutes later courtesy of Kevin Smith. The Methil side paraded the League Two trophy after the match as they prepare for a season in Scottish football’s third tier.

Montrose ended a gloomy campaign with a 1-0 success over Berwick Rangers, Gary Fraser’s strike proving enough for the Angus side.
