Polson breaks the deadlock and Tynecastle hearts

Hutchison Vale won the SERYFA under-13s Lothian Buses Cup after defeating rivals Tynecastle FC 1-0 at Saughton Enclosure.

Robbie Polson scored the winning goal with seven minutes remaining to ensure Hutchie continued their season’s trophy haul.

Having already added the SYFA Challenge Cup and the Stewart Brien Cup to the cabinet, Hutchison Vale have now set their sights on three more cup finals. Division One continues to be fought between Hutchie and Tynecastle.

The jubilant Hutchison Vale coach Alan McConnell said: “The match went much to plan. They were big and fast and our defenders covered them well. Our footballing style eventually worked. We are doing well, we are unbeaten this season.”

After chances for both teams were squandered, Polson finally grabbed the winning goal in the 63rd minute scoring from close range after Alistair McCann played a low ball across the area into the attacker’s feet.

The goalscorer then had a chance to put the game to bed in the 69th minute when a deep free kick was swung into the box but Polson’s volley was well saved by Robert Watt in the Tynecastle goal.

Tynecastle had one last chance to equalise in stoppage time, but Bruce McCrorie’s free kick from the right by-line went over the crossbar.
