Phinn poised to return for Dunfermline

Dunfermline manager Jim Jefferies has been handed an unexpected boost with the news that Nick Phinn is poised to return from injury to bolster his team’s fight to remain in the SPL.

The midfielder has made just one first-team outing – for only 13 minutes – in a nightmare season because of a recurring hamstring problem.

However, after breaking down in training a crushing five times, the 23-year-old could finally be about to shake off the injury in time for the Pars’ crucial post-split fixtures.

After joining in training in recent days, Phinn will play this lunch-time in a bounce game against Motherwell and Jefferies has revealed the youngster could even return to the fold against St Mirren next Saturday if he comes through unscathed.

He said: “Nick has been a big miss for the team this season because he has been an important player and has scored a good number of goals from midfield in recent seasons. He’s had an awful lot of disappointments to cope with this year but we’re hoping that there is light at the end of the tunnel for the lad.

“He has worked hard with the physio and if he comes through Friday’s bounce game and the rest of training then he could be involved against St Mirren.”
