Peter Pawlett avoids talk of Aberdeen title chase
The Aberdeen match-winner in yesterday’s 1-0 Premiership victory over Inverness Caley Thistle is refusing to get carried away amid a storming run of eight wins and eight clean sheets from the last nine league games.

Hide AdWhile it wasn’t pretty in Inverness, where the hosts hit the bar and created more chances, Pawlett rates that strength of character in the Aberdeen side as another sign of progress.
The 23-year-old, who netted his fifth goal of the season, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the three points as it’s a really difficult place to come. They put us under a lot of pressure so it’s a great three points for us.
“We’ve learned as a team to grind out results and we know what it takes to win games even when we don’t play at our best. We know we have to work hard and take our opportunities when they come and that’s what we did here. We’ve got both sides of our game and the manager has drilled it into us that we have to do the dirty side of the game at times and thankfully we managed that again.”
Neatly side-stepping talk of an incredible tilt at the Dons’ first title since 1985, Pawlett stressed: “We just want to improve on last year and beat our points tally. The manager keeps drilling it into us that we can’t get ahead of ourselves and we have to take it one game at a time as every match is a different challenge.
“Picking up the points every week is the challenge and if we can do that consistently we’ll see where it takes us. St Johnstone [the opponents on 1 January] are in great form so we know that will be another tough match and one we have to play well in if we are to pick up the three points.”
