Peter Houston apologises to Hibs' John McGinn over '˜penalty'

Falkirk manager Peter Houston has apologised to Hibernian midfielder John McGinn after accusing him of diving.

The Bairns boss hit out at the Easter Road player following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at the Falkirk Stadium, accusing him of “going down easily” under a challenge inside the box from full-back Luke Leahy.

It looked a stonewall penalty but referee John Beaton waved away Leith appeals after McGinn leapt to his feet to play on.

Now Houston has called the Scotland Under-21s skipper’s club boss Alan Stubbs to apologise for his own mistake.

In a statement posted on Falkirk’s website retracting his earlier comments, Houston said: “After reviewing the footage of the incident in hindsight John, who is an extremely talented football player, had a strong case for a penalty and fair credit to the lad for attempting to play on.

“At the time of making the comments I hadn’t seen the footage properly, I’ve called Alan Stubbs this morning to apologise to John for the comments that were made.”

Sunday’s stalemate leaves both sides tied for second place in the Ladbrokes Championship, five points behind leaders Rangers.
