Partick Thistle boss fires back at Pat Bonner over relegation tip

Alan Archibald has questioned whether former Celtic hero and BBC pundit Pat Bonner could locate Partick Thistle on a map, let alone speak with enough authority to tip them for relegation.

Earlier this week the BBC released an online article where a selection of their pundits predicted questions like ‘who will win the title?’ and ‘who will be relegated?’

Bonner, along with choosing Hearts to finish second behind Celtic, said Thistle would finish bottom of the pile.

The comments riled Archibald who, will acknowledging no-one wants to be tipped for relegation, did wonder what led Bonner to come to such a conclusion.

He said: “A couple of people have still tipped us to go down. Pat Bonner mentioned us but I don’t think he even knows where Partick is, so that doesn’t make any difference to us.

“You can use it to your advantage as motivation. We know what we are and our aim, first and foremost, is still to stay in the league. There are four teams who should be up there challenging, but the rest are much of a muchness.

“It’s harsh even tipping one team to go down. Someone has to be picked when you’re put on the spot. It’s been better for us because we’ve kept the majority of our best players.”
